Concord, NH November 24, 2009 - Hitachi Cable Manchester (HCM) continues to be a leader in green initiatives.
On November 23, New Hampshire's Department of Environmental Services awarded Honorable Mention to HCM for its submission for the Governor's Award for Pollution Prevention. Governor John Lynch presented the plaque to HCM representatives.
Since 1996, NH's DES has been providing recognition to companies who have chosen to limit and or decrease the impact that their company has on the environment. These companies have initiated programs that address environmental concerns such as reducing waste, recycling, energy reduction and alternative energy. HCM currently has 21 green initiatives that it has undertaken in an effort to further limit the environmental impact of its manufacturing facility. Over the last few years, HCM has significantly reduced the amount of waste it generates while simultaneously increasing recycling efforts. HCM also dramatically reduced the amount of methyl ethyl ketone (MEK) that it generates. This was accomplished by transitioning to water based products.
The winner of the Governors Award for Pollution Prevention for 2009 was Southeastern Container, Inc. of Hudson, NH. Also receiving honorable mention was BAE Systems of Nashua, NH.
HCM, located in Manchester, NH manufactures a complete line of copper and fiber optic cables for the communication industry. In addition to category cables, products include round and flat electronics cables. HCM also specializes in custom cable constructions. Over 3,300 different cable products are manufactured at this facility.
